This one-day workshop introduces the concepts of HRV that allow a window into Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) processing. The morning session explores the anatomy and physiology of the cardio-respiratory systems and the basis for the HRV measures. Participants will collect 5 minutes of resting baseline data and learn to interpret the measures to form judgements about the ANS for that subject.

The afternoon session is devoted to HRV biofeedback. Topics include: Finding Resonance Frequency, Training at that frequency both in session and at home, and applications to stress related and anxiety disorders.

Richard Gevirtz, Ph.D. is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Diego. He has been in involved in research and clinical work in applied psychophysiology and biofeedback for the last 30 years and was the president of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, 2006-2007. His primary research interests are in understanding the physiological and psychological mediators involved in disorders such as chronic muscle pain, fibromyalgia, and gastrointestinal pain. In this vein, he has studied applications of heart rate variability biofeedback for anxiety, pain, gastrointestinal, cardiac rehabilitation and other disorders.  He is the author of many journal articles and chapters on these topics. He also maintains a part time clinical practice treating patients with anxiety and stress related disorders.

This workshop is NOT limited to current BioGraph Infiniti users only. Clinicians who have an interest in Biofeedback and in BioGraph Infiniti but do not currently possess our equipment are welcome to register!

Stens Biofeedback Professional Certification Programs

The Stens Professional Biofeedback and Neurofeedback Certificate Programs have two primary training goals:  first, to provide knowledge of and experience with biofeedback and neurofeedback instrumentation, and second, to present models of clinical application that are current and efficacious.  Our approach to achieving these goals is both didactic and experiential, and we believe that learning is maximized within an environment that is supportive and nurturing.

Our core curriculum is specifically designed to provide a clear biofeedback and neurofeedback model that allows immediate use with stress disorders and explores other innovative directions.  It is a step-by-step learning process that requires no previous experience with either biofeedback instrumentation or computers.  The program provides an incomparable learning environment for the beginner and allows more experienced practitioners to pursue more advanced application.

Through the presentation of current and relevant clinical material, combined with ample time for self-experience and practice, our trainees can successfully integrate biofeedback and neurofeedback into their own clinical style and approach.

  • To integrate both psychological and physiological theory to form a more current psycho physiological model of stress related disorders.

  • To use biofeedback equipment and procedures to reduce patient stressors and enhance coping skills

  • To find new markets and provide better treatment for stress related disorders.

  • To design a short-term treatment plan which is applicable to a wide number of stress related disorders.

  • To document therapeutic success and enjoy higher customer satisfaction through the use of biofeedback training procedures.

Workshops include:

  • Professional Biofeedback Certificate Program

  • Professional EEG Neurofeedback Certificate Program

  • Introduction to Biofeedback, Introduction to EEG Neurofeedback

  • Quantitative EEG

  • Introduction to QEEG Neurofeedback
